What is the lifespan of an exercise bike?
January 25th, 2010 | by admin |My in-laws were going to sell us their exercise bike, but when we got it home the screen that shows time, heart rate, etc., would light up when you peddled (it’s self energizing), but none of the info would come up. Nothing at all. It was just blank. Well for one, it’s been in their garage for a whole year (it get’s super hot in the summer), and the fact that before that her daycare kids were climbing all over it and pushing the buttons.
They tried to say that we must have done something to it. My mother-in-law said, “Well it was working just fine at our house!” So my husband asked her when the last time was she’d tested it out. She told him a year. Then we asked how old it was…….15 years old, at least.
So anyway, we just want to know how long they hold up for? Especially since her daycare kids were messing with it. My husband told me that his parents have been known to try to sell broken equipment to people, all the while telling them that it’s in good working condition

The excercise bike cycle: 1. You buy an excercise bike at a yard sale. 2. You or your girlfriend uses it twice. 3. It gathers dust for about a year and a half in a hot garage. 4. You sell the bike at a yard sale.
Check the wiring from the console to the wheel generator, and the generator mechanicals. Also look for a battery. It could be that the particular unit is not really self energizing, but has a battery and switches on when the bike is pedaled.
